HONG KONG OLYMPIC GAMES PROGRAM
August 12 - 22 2008
Hong Kong Equestrian Events
Hong Kong was delighted to be
selected to co-host the Equestrian events of the 2008 Olympic Games. Hong Kong
has pledged to provide world class facilities for the Olympic Equestrian
events.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club will
manage the venues of the 2008 Olympic Equestrian competition, providing
facilities for all three events of the program, which is comprised of Jumping,
Dressage and Eventing. The Equestrian events will be held at the Hong Kong
Sports Institute and Penfold Park in Shatin, Beas River Country Club and part
of the adjacent Hong Kong Golf Club. Construction includes the modification of
the Hong Kong Sports Institute and Penfold Park to provide an Olympic Complex,
main competition area, and training arena which will accommodate the Dressage
and Jumping events.
With its captivating mix of East
and West, old and new, Hong Kong is a must for any Asian itinerary. Known by
shoppers from around the world, Hong Kong is truly a bargain hunter's paradise,
offering everything from traditional handicrafts to the latest in electronics.
More than just a shopping mecca, Hong Kong offers natural beauty, electrifying
nightlife and superb dining. While Hong Kong's bustling harbor and towering
skyscrapers may be its most familiar images, Buddhist monasteries and English
afternoon tea are equally important to its identity.
Here Chinese tradition is right at
home with the 21st century. The ancient discipline of feng shui influences the
famous skyline, and some of the modern buildings even feature portals carved
out to allow mythical dragons a clear path to the sea for their morning bath. Traces
if the British Empire linger in architecture and everyday events. English is
widely spoken, and along with Cantonese, is one of Hong Kong's official
languages.
